When Ritsert Mans’ friend began experimenting with growing algae, Mans was inspired to build a wooden motorcycle that would run on the bio-fuel.
In a video, Mans explains that his friend Peter Mooij was looking for ways to make algae oil appeal to the imagination, and that’s when Mans began to build his motorcycle out of natural materials. Mans test drives the motorcycle on a beach, remarking that that is how test drives for motorcycles were done in the early 1900s.
“People don’t know what the world will look in 30 years, in terms of transportation and energy,” Mans said in the video. “That uncertainty is also beautiful, it is a whole new adventure — everyone can develop and build their own ideas and I think it’s important to emphasize that adventure.”
